Today one year ago, I lost my best friend, husband and the Dad of my two daughters and Grandpa of my grandchildren and great grandchildren. On July 7, 2018, I saw in person the true meaning of the brother hood of the firemen. It would have been so much harder to get through that sad time without all of you there helping us to cope with our loss. I can't remember that day without remembering all you did for our family. Doug loved this fire department so much and did whatever he could to make it the best department he could with the help of all of you. Our family is very proud of what he did for this department and St. Mary's County as a Volunteer Fireman. It is also good to know that my little speech at the Installation helped the County to finally agree to "Stop The Bleed Program", so that maybe it will save a family from losing their loved one from an arterial bleed. The First Responders arrived on time here at home three times prior and I know the Members at Station 9 had helped in stopping one previously while he was at the Station and had also helped at the dialysis center once. Thank you all again and I will keep you in my prayers forever.

My family and I would like to give our appreciation to Dave and the crew for coming out to my home when my legs went weak and I was stuck between the driver and passenger seat. I am a US Navy Veteran with mobility issues and I needed help because my wife and daughter did not have the strength to lift me. Dave was able to lift me from the van and place me in the scooter. My wife from Thailand made a thai dish (chicken & rice) to give to the guys for our appreciation. Thank You! Wilberto Flores (Build A HERO- Humility, Excellence, Respect, Opportunity.

It was a shock to hear about Doug's passing. I knew Doug for 44 years, with 12 of those as a member of Lexington Park V. F.D., and Bay District Volunteer F. D. Both my wife and I, want to send our condolences and prayers to the members past, present, and future of your great fire department.

Today my wife found one of your badge shields from one of your uniforms (clip pin on the back) on the side of the road near East Arkansas Community College in Forrest City, Arkansas. I am a firefighter with the Newcastle Fire Department which has been in existence since June of 2005 and we serve the rural areas just outside of Forrest City. I am the first firefighter on the roll of the department when it was founded and am still with them. The badge shield was found on Hwy 284 which is not far from Interstate 40 which runs all the way across our state from Memphis, Tn down to Texarkana, Tx. We can't figure out how the badge shield was on the side of the road, unless maybe a retired firefighter from your department must have traveled through here and maybe stayed at the State Park which is about 14 miles from where the badge shield was found and on the same road. Anyway, isn't it interesting that one of your badge shields would land here and a firefighter's wife would happen to see it shining on the road, and pull over and pick it up? I called one of your numbers and a firefighter there said I could just keep it because you all have a bunch of them...so I will keep it as a keepsake. If you guys ever decide to travel down this way to maybe visit Memphis, Tn. please look us up. Be safe brothers and God speed to each of you from the Newcastle Rural Volunteer Fire Department P.O. Your fire department is doing the right thing by having a older Baker Aerialscope re-chassed by Pierce Mfg, they do a real nice job refurbishing fire apparatus. If there are any problems with the boom they will be found and repaired like new!
Good luck with your new tower!!

It's great to save money on equipment and you seem to have a good deal but that tower ladder is 43 years old and that boom has had problems over the years including cracks..

I would like to publicly thank the Bay District Volunteers for the opportunity in using the Flashover Simulator. The professionalism exhibited by the members who ran the drill was phenomenal. I was fortunate enough to participate in 3 separate drills at the simulator and was always pleased by the experience. Many volunteers will gain great knowledge in using this valuable training aid.
Thank you again and I look forward to future training opportunities with your great volunteers.

To my Brothers and sisters in St Mary's county; Companies 9 and 3,
I cannot express my sympathies deep enough to learn of the recent losses you all suffered recently.
I will tell you that I still look fondly on my time spent there and the lessons that I carry with me here in my new home. I wish you all the very best and encourage you to continue to carry on with the pride that both stations have always shown. Happy new year boys and girls.

Just looked at the vintage photos posted on your website. Sure does bring back memories. Love the photo of Doug in his speedo, escorting a young lady to the water. I call that a speedo because in that time that's what it was. Keep on going Doug.

I remember as a little kid back in the 1970's spending time at the Bay District Fire Department with my Uncle Doug Medley when we went to visit my grandparents. Even back then I always remembered the professionalism and dedication the members of this fire department had. It is awesome to see that this is continued today. You all at the Bay District Fire Department deserve a huge "Thank You" for the standard that you set for all Volunteer fire departments in this country. The days that I did spend with my Dad and Uncle Doug at your station inspired me to become a Volunteer firefighter as well. After spending the last 27 years as a firefighter/Medic in Rapid City, South Dakota, I can't help but think of the paths that were paved for us by firefighters before us. You all have helped set the standard that we all work hard to acheive today! Glad to see that my Uncle Doug Medley is still helping out where he can even in the later stages of his life. I am proud to call him my uncle and would like to Thank him for introducing me to the fire service when I was a young child. It left a very good impression on me and helped me find my way to the fire service. Bay District Volunteers keep up that great service you provide to your community and remember the hard work and dedication of the firefighters before us that have worked with much less and got the fire service to where it is today. God bless you all!
