Commercial Body Shop Fire in Hollywood

By Bay District Volunteers
January 8, 2026

At approximately 8:14 a.m., units from Bay District Volunteer Fire Department Stations 9 and 3, along with several neighboring fire and EMS departments, were dispatched to a reported building fire in the 43900 block of Commerce Avenue in Hollywood.

Chief 7B was first to arrive and found smoke showing from the Alpha and Delta sides of a one-story commercial building operating as an automotive body shop. Moments later, Chief 7 arrived and assumed command of the incident, assigning Chief 7B as the attack group supervisor.

Engine 73 and Truck 7 arrived shortly thereafter. Engine 73 deployed a 250-foot, 1.5-inch attack line to begin extinguishing a fire located within the facility’s paint booth, which had also spread into surrounding void spaces above and around the booth. Truck 7 supported interior operations by conducting primary searches, overhaul, and ventilation to remove smoke and heat from the structure.

Rescue Engine 92 was assigned to assist with fire attack alongside members of the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department. Engine 32 established the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT), a dedicated crew prepared to respond immediately in the event a firefighter required rescue during operations.

Crews worked for approximately 90 minutes to bring the fire under control. The incident was eventually scaled back to units from Company 7 for final overhaul and scene stabilization. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Fire Safety Tip: Ensure that all workspaces—especially those involving flammable materials like paint—are equipped with proper ventilation, fire suppression systems, and regularly maintained fire extinguishers.
