| Recently the fire prevention committee of the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department held a contest to elect a Little Miss Fire Prevention and at our Monday night business meeting the winner was in attendance with her proud Mom and Dad to be crowned by the department.
The winner of the contest was Emily Nicole Dove, daughter of two of our most active associates Keith and Robin Dove. Emily is in the second grade at Green Holly Elementary School and has been interested in the fire department since her mom and dad signed up and she has always been at the different functions of the associates to help out any way she could.
During the course of the contest Miss Emily had to make a presentation to the fire prevention committee of just what it is that we do during the year to prevent fires and educate the people of our district about fire safety. There was also a question and answer period where everyone on the committee had things that they wanted to see if Emily could give a good answer for and she passed that part with flying colors.
Little Miss Fire Prevention will be riding in the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen's Association parade along with all the other members and equipment of our department on May 1, 2011 at the host company Solomon's Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department. This is usually one of the biggest parades of the year and we invite everyone to come out and see your volunteers and all their beautiful equipment. The young members work very hard to get everything looking good and it's always nice to know that someone out there appreciates all that they do for their different communities. |
