Firefighters are a Special Breed...
By Public Information Officer Douglas Medley
February 11, 2012
You know this story doesn't have any pictures of flames shooting out of windows or cars wrecked on our highways but it is something that was sent to me by a dear friend and I wanted to share it with everyone.
You guys from both stations have stepped up to the plate more than once in the past few days responding to calls and none more serious than the loss of life of one of our fine citizens that occured in the Fox Chase apartments.
Sitting home listening to the calls and trying to picture all the action that is taking place on the scene I can almost feel myself pulling on the line or throwing ground ladders. I know it sounds silly but for you younger guys out there I just ask that you humor the older firefighters and just know that we are pulling for you and all the members of the department that we so love.
All of you can hold your heads high and walk with that sense of pride that you so rightfully have earned and don't let anyone tell you different. We are on the road to great things and I am so thrilled to be a part of it.
A man walked up to a firefighter and told him that he wanted to do that when he was a kid and he asked him what he made?
The firefighter said "What do I make".
I make holding your hand seem like the biggest thing in the world when I am cutting you out of your car.
I can make 5 minutes feel like a lifetime when I go into a burning house to save your family.
I make those annoying sirens sound like angels singing when you need them.
I make your children breathe after they have stopped.
I can make you survive a heart attack.
I make myself get out of bed at 3 A.M. to go risk my life for people I have never met and have never asked for thanks.
I MAKE A DIFFEERENCE "WHAT DO YOU MAKE".
So for you and all the firefighters out there you make plenty.....
