| Firefighters from Bay District Volunteer Fire Department Stations 3 and 9, along with surrounding mutual aid companies, responded early Saturday morning to a working mobile home fire on the 21400 block of Suburban Drive in Lexington Park.
At approximately 1:34 a.m., multiple 911 callers reported a trailer fire, with visible flames and uncertainty about occupancy. Engine 32 was the first to arrive, locating a fully involved single-wide trailer with heavy fire conditions and structural collapse on the rear and side sections (Charlie and Delta quadrants).
Engine 32's officer established command and initiated a defensive, exterior-only fire attack due to the unsafe conditions of the structure. Additional units - including Tower 9, Squad 3, Engine 132, and others - were assigned to support the attack group, staging and rotating personnel as the incident progressed.
Firefighters successfully contained the blaze to the structure of origin, preventing extension beyond the initial structure. The fire was marked under control by approximately 1:52 a.m., and fully extinguished shortly after 2:13 a.m. However, due to the collapse and hidden smoldering areas, crews remained on scene to conduct thorough overhaul and await the arrival of the Maryland State Fire Marshal.
The trailer was confirmed to be unoccupied and believed to be abandoned at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.
Fire Prevention Tip: Ensure vacant or abandoned properties in your neighborhood are secured and reported if unsafe. Unauthorized access to such structures can increase fire risk and endanger the community.
