House Fire Displaces Two Adults in Great Mills; One Firefighter Injured
By Bay District Volunteers
November 17, 2025
On Sunday, November 16, 2025, at approximately 11:07 a.m., Stations 9 and 3, along with surrounding fire and EMS companies, were dispatched to the 21000 block of Chancellors Run Road for a reported house fire. Initial 911 callers reported visible flames, with the two adult occupants safely evacuating prior to the arrival of first responders.
Chief 6 (Windsor), who was in the area, was first to arrive and found a two-story single-family home heavily involved in fire. Based on the advanced fire conditions and strong winds, Chief 6 declared the fire a defensive operation. Rescue Engine 92 arrived and began exterior suppression efforts.
Chief 6 also requested a working incident task force, which brought additional fire and EMS crews to the scene to support the operation.
Chief 7A (Brady) arrived shortly after and assumed command of the incident. Crews from Bay District Volunteer Fire Department, NAS Patuxent River, Hollywood, Second District, and Leonardtown Fire Departments responded and worked aggressively to contain the fire. Multiple hand lines were deployed to fight the fire, which had extended rapidly to both floors, the attic, and roof structure.
Despite challenging conditions, including gusty winds that intensified fire spread, the blaze was brought under control within an hour. Fire department operations on scene continued for over four hours for extensive overhaul and safety monitoring.
Both adult residents were unharmed but displaced by the incident. The American Red Cross responded to assist the homeowners with emergency needs. Additional information about recovery efforts and any community assistance requests will be shared as they become available.
One firefighter sustained an ankle injury during operations but declined transport after evaluation by EMS.
The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal responded to investigate the origin and cause of the fire, which remains under investigation.
