By Bay District Volunteers
February 29, 2024

On February 24, 2024, the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department (BDVFD) and the Lexington Park Volunteer Rescue Squad (LPVRS) collaborated with the Southern Maryland Chapter of the American Red Cross to undertake a vital community initiative. The teams embarked on a mission to enhance residential safety by installing smoke alarms in the Lord Calvert MHP area.

Divided into teams, dedicated volunteers went door-to-door, conducting checks to ensure households had an adequate number of functional smoke alarms. In instances where homes lacked this crucial safety measure, team members promptly installed alarms, totaling an impressive 52 installations throughout the day. Importantly, this service was provided to homeowners completely free of charge.

The primary objective of the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department is unwavering: to ensure that every home is equipped with working smoke alarms, thereby bolstering safety for all residents. Recognizing the critical role smoke alarms play in saving lives during emergencies, BDVFD remains committed to this cause.

For households facing financial constraints that hinder their ability to obtain smoke alarms, BDVFD offers assistance. Through our initiative, we provide and install smoke alarms at no cost to the homeowner. To request this essential safety measure, individuals can simply visit our website at www.bdvfd.org. Under the "Public Info" section, select "Smoke Alarm Request" and complete the form.

It's important to note that this service is not limited to residents within the BDVFD response area. Regardless of location, individuals in need of smoke alarms are encouraged to reach out. BDVFD will assist in connecting individuals with their local fire departments to access the necessary support and resources.

Bay District Volunteer Fire Department (BDVFD) is committed to serving and protecting the community through fire suppression, emergency medical services, and public education. With a team of dedicated volunteers, BDVFD strives to enhance safety and well-being for all residents. For more information, visit www.bdvfd.org.
