January 29, 2023

On Friday, January 27 at 8:25 pm Bay District Station 3, NDWFD Station 13 and surrounding EMS companies were dispatched to an auto accident involving multiple vehicles and one of them on fire. Engine 32, Fire Chief 3 (Gould), Chief 9B (Adams) immediately responded to the scene. St. Mary’s County Communications advised it was a multi-vehicle accident with one vehicle on fire, a later report stated that one subject was entrapped in the vehicle not on fire. Fire Chief 3 arrived on scene with an accident with one vehicle well involved with fire. Further evaluation revealed the driver of the vehicle that was on fire was removed by a bystander and placed in a safe location, it was also determined the alone driver of the vehicle has succumbed to his injuries. E132 (NDWFD) and E-32 (Bay District Lexington Park Station) arrived on scene and began the extinguishment of the fire. Rescue Engine 92 (Bay District California Station) arrived on scene and assisted with the extinguishment and was later rerouted to a landing zone for Maryland State Police Aviation Trooper 7 as the passenger that was removed by the bystander required treatment from a trauma center.

The members of the Bay District VFD extend our condolences for the driver that succumbed to his injuries as a result of this accident.
