By Bay District Volunteers
July 24, 2022

At 4:43 pm units were dispatched to St. Andrews Church Road in the area of the landfill for a serious motor vehicle accident with subjects trapped. E91 arrived and reported no entrapment, several injuries with one being serious. Three vehicles were involved and two were off the road into the woods on opposite sides of the road.

Safety 9 (Adams) arrived on scene and established command assigning Captain 9 (Martoni) the rescue group. Units performed a rapid extrication (removal) of the patient with serious injuries and requested MSP Aviation Trooper 7 for a Category A Priority 1 patient. Squad 7 (HVFD) arrived and assisted with securing the power on the vehicles.

Ambulance 797 (Paramedic Equipped) transported the patient to the St. Mary’s County Airport for Trooper 7 which was waiting on their arrival, the patient was transported to a trauma center for treatment. Additional ambulances from Hollywood VRS and Lexington Park VRS treated additional patients form the remaining vehicles. Captain 38 (Randazzo) was the EMS Group Supervisor.

Due to the severity of the collision St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office performed accident reconstruction of the incident.

While on the scene an additional accident occurred three hundred feet west of the original accident, there were no injuries on that incident.
