CPSC: 5 Recalls Announced

1. Cycling Sports Group Recalls Cannondale Canvas NEO Bicycles Due to Fall Hazard:

Recall Summary

Hazard: The front fender can detach and cause the front wheel to abruptly stop, posing a fall hazard.

Remedy: Repair - Consumers should immediately stop riding the bicycle until the front fender is removed, and contact their local authorized Cannondale dealer or Cycling Sports Group to arrange for a free repair.

Units: About 1,270 

DescriptionThis recall involves all Cycling Sports Group Cannondale Canvas NEO bicycles.  These are “e-bicycles” that have an electric assist motor, and they were sold in a variety of different colors and sizes.  Affected bicycles are marked “Canvas” on the top tube and have an electric assist motor.  Only models of “Canvas” bicycles with an electric assist motor are included in this recall.

Incidents/Injuries: Cycling Sports Group has received eight reports of the fender detaching and contacting the bicycle wheel, two of which resulted in injuries involving bruising and abrasions.

Sold At: Authorized Cannondale dealers nationwide from June 2019 through October 2020 for between $3,200 and $4,200.

2. Graco Recalls Inclined Sleeper Accessory Included with Four Models of Playards to Prevent Risk of Suffocation:

Recall Summary

Name of product: Inclined sleeper accessory included with the Graco Pack ‘n Play Day2Dream Playard with Bedside Sleeper, Graco Pack ‘n Play Nuzzle Nest Playard, Graco Pack ‘n Play Everest Playard and Graco Pack ‘n Play Rock ‘n Grow Playard

Hazard: Infant fatalities have been reported with other manufacturers’ inclined sleep products, after infants rolled from their back to their stomach or side while unrestrained, or under other circumstances.

 

Remedy: Refund - Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled inclined sleeper accessory and contact Graco for a refund for the accessory. Consumers can continue to use the playard portion of the product and other accessories included with the playard.

Description: This recall involves the inclined sleeper accessory sold with the Graco Pack ‘n Play Day2Dream Playard with Bedside Sleeper, Graco Pack ‘n Play Nuzzle Nest Playard, Graco Pack ‘n Play Everest Playard and Graco Pack ‘n Play Rock ‘n Grow Playard with the following model numbers.  The model number is located on a label on the underside of the playard on one of the tubes.  The inclined sleeper accessory is the only portion of the product that is being recalled.  Consumers can continue to use the playard, changing station and bassinet portions of the products without the inclined sleeper accessory according to owner’s manual.

3. Camp Chef Recalls Portable Gas Stoves Due to Fire Hazard:

Recall Date: December 16, 2020

Recall Summary 

Name of product: Camp Chef portable stoves

Hazard: An internal part of the gas regulator component can have a sharp edge that can wear or tear a hole in the seal causing gas to leak out of the top of the regulator, posing a fire hazard.

Remedy:  Replace - Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Camp Chef Stoves and contact Camp Chef to obtain a free gas regulator replacement kit.

Recall Details

Units: About 20,600

Description: This recall involves Camp Chef portable stoves with model numbers MS40A, MSHP, or MSGG and with component gas regulators date coded “1923” through “2030” inclusive.  The model number is located on the manufacturers label on the bottom of the stove.  The gas regulator date code is engraved on the regulator.  The MS40A stove is aluminum with the Mountaineer name printed on the front.  The MSHP is black and red with EVEREST 2X printed on the front.  The MSGG is black and red with the Rainer 2X logo printed on the front.  All stoves have the Camp Chef logo embossed on the lid.

Incidents/Injuries: Camp Chef has received 26 reports of gas leaking from regulators.  No injuries have been reported.

Sold At: Sporting goods stores and Walmart stores nationwide from August 2019 through September 2020 from between $150 to $300 depending on the model.

4. BRP Recalls Can-Am Screw Jacks Due to Crush Hazard:

Recall Summary

Name of product: Can-Am® Off-Road screw jacks

Hazard: The screw jack can collapse and cause the lifted vehicle to fall on a person, posing a crush hazard that can result in severe injury or death.

Description: This recall involves Can-Am Off-Road screw jacks sold as an accessory for Maverick X3 side-by-side vehicles.  They are used to lift an off-road vehicle so that a tire can be changed.  They are silver-colored with a black base.  Can-Am is printed on the arm of the screw jack. 

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

5. LG Energy Solution Michigan Recalls Home Energy Storage Batteries Due to Fire Hazard:

Recall Date: December 16, 2020

Recall Summary 

Name of product: LG Chem “RESU 10H” Lithium-Ion Residential Energy Storage System

Hazard: The home batteries can overheat, posing a risk of fire and emission of harmful smoke. 

Remedy: Replace - Consumers with recalled batteries should immediately contact LG Energy Solution Michigan to schedule a free replacement.  LG Energy Solution Michigan, its distributors and its installers also are attempting to contact all owners directly to arrange for modifications to the recalled batteries to reduce the risk of overheating until they can be replaced with new batteries.

Recall Details

Units: About 1,815

Description: This recall involves the LG Chem Model RESU 10H lithium-ion storage battery that is installed as part of a residential energy solar panel system.  The recalled battery allows owners to capture and store energy from the solar panels.  The batteries are wall mounted and measure 29.30 x 35.70 x 8.10 inches.  They weigh roughly 220 pounds.  The LG Chem logo is located on the top left side of the front panel.  The serial number of the recalled product begins with R15563P3SSEG and is located behind the access door of the RESU 10H (Type-R) home battery.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received five reports of fires resulting in minor property damage.  No injuries have been reported.

Sold At: Various distributors of solar energy storage systems nationwide, including, but not limited to Sunrun, AEE Solar, Baywa, CED, Krannich, Independent Electric Supply, and Inter Island Solar Supply, from January 2017 through March 2019 for about $8,000.
