April 23, 2020

On Thursday, April 23, 2020, at 9:24 p.m., your Bay District Volunteers and surrounding departments responded to 22390 Douglas Court in Great Mills, for a reported house on fire with subjects possibly trapped.

E91 and Chief 9B (N. Harrison) arrived on the scene to find a 2-story single family home with fire showing from side “A” (Front).

Moments after firefighters arrived on the scene, a Bay District Firefighter reported all occupants were accounted for, but still had a pet cat still trapped inside the house. One firefighter was transported to Medstar St. Mary’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries from a fall.

The occupants were alerted to the fire by a neighbor banging on the front door. All occupants were able to escape unharmed and are being aided by the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.
