Bay District Volunteers Installation Night

By Public Information Officer Douglas Medley
November 12, 2016

The social hall was beautiful as everyone was arriving for our annual installation. It just seems to get better and better every year and this night was spot on. We had some of our associates greeting all the guests and making sure that we got the names right so they could be properly introduced at the start of the program. After a opening prayer by our Chaplain Keith Fairfax it was time to sit down to another wonderful dinner provided by Ms. Rita "B" and man did she put on the feed. Again the installation committee headed by Lauren Johnson did a great job of preparing the menu to so that we would have something for all of us. After everyone finished eating and had seconds it was time to take care of the program before the dancing and renewing old friendships started.

This night we were so fortunate to have as our M.C. long time friend of our department Past County Commissioner Mr. Dan Raley who stepped up to again give us a big assist. Now I know when you can't get the best (That Would Be Me) then we were glad to have him. Now just kidding about the second best but he didn't dance like me did he. Enough about me. Danny was spot on and had a few zingers to throw out there to keep the night fun. It is always funny to see how an ex county commissioner introduces the current ones. So funny.

Now down to business and again this night we were so honored to have the President of the Southern Maryland Firemen's Association Johnnie Wathen to swear in the Line and Executive officers and Mrs. Barbara Sue Nelson President of the Maryland Firemen's Association Ladies Auxiliary to do the honors of installing our Associate Officers. This is always impressive to see all of our officers in their pretty uniforms taking the oath of office and getting along so well with one another. Kidding Chief and Mr. President.

Well as soon as everyone was sworn in it was time to make some awards to the membership before we could proceed to the dance floor. The Fire Chief Joe Gould and President Wayne Johnson had the honors to make the presentations. I will try and go over them in the pictures of which I have 440 taken by our Associate President Jeff McClane and I know how long this old computer takes to download but as I sit here in the basement of 9 what else do I have to do on the day before Thanksgiving. My wife down at my daughter Suzie's stuffing the ham so she dropped me off and here I sit.

So sit back and enjoy them as I do think strongly that our guy's and gal's need to be recognized for their service to the community. And also that they voted to give me another year in my job. Now let me say that I can't identify everyone in the pictures and I don't want to make the mistake of saying this is so and so and it not be that person so some won't have anything on them besides I just wanted to get the pictures on here for everyone to enjoy.

Mutual Aid: Companies that filled in for us and a big thanks for allowing our people a chance to enjoy themselves for one night out of the year. Leonardtown, Second District, Hollywood, Ridge and NAS Patuxent River.
