Progress Report Station 9 Renovation

By Public Information Officer Douglas Medley
September 13, 2016

Just a little progress report on how the construction is going at station 9 along with a few pictures. Things are really moving along now with all the removal of the old and getting ready for the new progresses. Everything has been gutted both upstairs and downstairs and now we have finished up most of the excavating and pouring the new footers for the addition. Now any of you guys that know about construction have heard about bad dirt and we are no exception cause it has seemed that anytime we have had to do something here that involves digging we run into bad dirt. So you have to dig it out and put in new dirt. Simple but that does not cover the expense of getting it done. We also found some of those pesky termites that have been enjoying lunch on us for years and that had to be all torn out and replaced. Think we got all of them dead and the ground treated to prevent them in the future but you all know how termites are once they find the lunchroom they like to come back.

One thing I have learned and I'm sure many of you know when you start a renovation of an existing building you never know what you might run into. So all the trusses for the kitchen addition have been delivered and as I sit here in the basement there is plenty of activity going on upstairs and outside. Hope the weather holds until they get everything done outside and move in to the first and second floor. The next set of pictures will be of the second floor as it moves along. I'm sure that many won't be interested but it gives me something to do and to let some of our older members see how the place is coming along. Also the pictures give us a historical picture for in the future so the next group of leaders might have a head start on what they want to do.

I keep telling our members to please put up with the dust and noise for a few more months and I know they will like the finished product. I think they are getting used to sleeping in the basement and the board approved a shower to be installed down there so now it's just like home. Right Les....
