Tower-9, Week 13 Progress Report for 8-18-16
By Deputy Fire Chief Steve Stockwell
August 20, 2016
As you can see from the photos the body has been removed and is now getting prepped for paint. The body is a Stainless Steel body and normally it was a significant weight adage to the apparatus, in at least this particular case the body is 800lbs heavier than the Aluminum body. With the body having to have a service life of 20+ years the longevity of the body which ends up with much more kicked up debris than the cab and is prone to corrosion is the reason why we went with a Stainless Steel body. As they disable the body they will continue to work on the small details of the apparatus until the body returns. Our Mid-Inspection Trip is suppose to be around the 8th-9th of September immediately prior to the installment of the aerial boom(s). Thing should begin to pick up very fast after that... Pierces photographer will be out of town for the next week or so, our next update should be in early September. Stay tuned...
Units:
TWR-9
Mutual Aid:
Pierce
The slots in the bumper are for the front Jack Plates.
Turntable, swivel and Tormentors (Middle Outriggers) are all attached in one housing.
As you can see we really put a lot of long ladders in the back and this is to reach inaccessible areas like houses or apartments that do not have rear access.
4 - Boom sections, the one above is painted and made of steel. The other 3 sections are Aluminum and all the sections are telescoping to each other for a total of 75 feet.
The skirt or catwalk is not original to the Mack we purchased but is original to the designs and was added as an additional option. The bucket boom combination can hold 1000lbs while flowing 1000gpm at any angle above 0 degrees... not to shabby for 50 years old.
