Santa Delivers More Than Toys
By Public Information Officer Douglas Medley
December 13, 2014
On Thursday evening our Engine 93 was out making a Santa run to the children in Wildewood housing along with the military housing behind the Giant grocery store when a call went out for a subject not breathing on Patuxent Beach Road in California. The ambulance from Lexington Park Rescue Squad was already on the scene with the patient when she stopped breathing and the engine company along with the medic unit was added to the call.
Well Santa, who was not a member of our department, was about to get the ride of his life. Now he might have a sleigh and reindeer but tonight he was about to take a ride on a fire truck. With our Deputy Chief Peter Marshall driving and firefighter Dillon Gatton riding the right front seat they were at the intersection of Route 235 and Route 4 and had a straight shot to the residence.
With Santa in the jump seat with firefighter Theden they arrived along with the medic unit and assisted with anything they could help with then following the ambulance to St. Mary's County Airport for a ride via Trooper 2 to a hospital up the road. At the time that the patient was loaded into the helo she was breathing and alert.
Another great job by the Emergency Medical personnel who are such a great asset to the citizens of St. Mary's County. I do hope that Santa has had time to recuperate before he has to make the big run on Christmas Eve.

Santa Claus at the Airport. Can you see how big his eyes are. He was so impressed with how the Emergency people work.
It's dark out and you can't see but there are plenty of people working on this patient before transferring her to the helo.
Trooper 2 from Andrews Air Force Base arrived shortly after the ambulance got to the airport.
Our crew getting ready to assist moving the patient to the helo.
