By Fire Sergeant Mike Bruner
February 9, 2012

On 02/08/2012 at 23:37 units from Companies 9, 3, 6, 7, 83 and EMS stations 38 & 39 were alerted to 45955 Foxchase Dr. for the reported apartment fire with subjects trapped. T-3 (Sgt. Thomas) and E-33 (Sgt. Bruner) were diverted from a reported chimney fire that units were responding to just minutes before. Medic-2 was the first unit to arrive advising that a neighbor had heard an explosion coming from the first floor apartment and that there was an person on home oxygen possibly trapped inside. Safety-3A (Johnson) was next to arrive, and confirmed a working fire and heavy smoke throughout apartment involved. E-91(Sgt. Iaggnemo) arrived at 23:41 taking their own water supply and advancing an 1 ¾" handline into the apartment making quick work of the fire. E-31(C-3B S. Stockwell) was next to arrive and established the "Foxchase Command" and advised all incoming units to establish a manpower pool in front of E-91. Crews evacuated the structure of any residents, forced entry into the fire apartment and were met with heavy smoke and heat. C-9B (M. Warren),T-3 and T-7 (C-7B B. Riley) arrived Side "Alpha" and placed in service multiple ground ladders along with their aerial ladder. T-3 performed a Primary Search and confirmed one Priority 4 patient. T-7 checked the floor above the fire apartment for extension and provided ventilation. Command then requested MD State Fire Marshalls Office and Utility Companies units to the scene just prior to scaling back the incident holding Companies 3, 9 and Truck 7 for overhaul and salvage. One family was temporarily displaced and Red Cross was dispatched and on the scene to assist. Units operated for over 3 hours on the scene before returning to quarters and being dispatched for another working fire.

The fire is currently under investigation by the MD State Fire Marshalls Office.

On behalf of the Officers and Members of the BDVFD we extend our thoughts and prayers to the family of the patient involved.
