You know every year we get invited back to the kid's day at Doctor Alexander's so we must be doing something right.

Saturday the 15th of May it was time again to make our appearance at the children's festivities that the fine doctor started many years ago and we are thankful that from the beginning he has wanted us to be a part of it.

There is all kind of activities for kids and parents to show them how best to protect themselves in all kinds of situations. Not only do we set up our fire prevention table but different organizations are there also to help out. They do all kinds of things for the boys and girls such as checking their teeth, eye screening, checking the alignment of the spine and to finish it all off the St. Mary's County Sheriff's office does finger printing and give the parents a copy to keep at home with other important papers. So it's not just all games and prizes although they do give away some very nice prizes two of which are nice new bikes both a boys and a girls model. In addition they are drawing names all day long for other goodies. Not to mention they had some swell hot dogs, pizza, drinks and smoothies from "Rita's".

Now I must mention one of the most visited displays in the parking lot was our Rescue Squad 3 and Engine 92.

I just never get tired of looking at kids as they are lifted up into the cab of the fire truck and allowed to walk thru the squad. There was this one little fellow that was blind but we lifted him up in the jump seat area of the engine and he was just thrilled feeling his way around while one of our firefighters talked to him about everything.

PRICELESS!!!!

The kids and parents also got the chance to watch us in action as we had a call for a subject that was hit by a car in the Wal-mart parking lot. Needless to say we were just across the street so were on the scene soon after the call was put out. Our members provided first aid until the arrival of the ambulance. We wish the young man a speedy recovery.

There is another little side note to this story and that is one of our own Firefighter Tod (Action) Jackson just turned the big 50 and his wife and family were getting the fire house set up for a big surprise party for him. He was working the fire prevention and I don't think he had a clue what was going on back at the station. One of his best friends had flown in from Colorado just for the occasion and Todd had not seen him since he got married. When Tod got back all the bay doors were down and I guess he thought that was a little strange with the nice weather but when he walked into the door everyone yelled "Surprise" and he really was. His wife Crystal and friends had worked for hours turning the engine bays into a birthday hall with plenty of balloons reminding him that isn't it nifty to be fifty. Tod we wish you many more and hope you spend them with us.

So just another Saturday for the members of Bay District and we even managed to run about a dozen calls during all the other activities.

Units: Engine 92, Utility 9 Engine 33, Rescue Squad 3
