By Bay District Volunteers
November 1, 2025

On Saturday afternoon, November 1, at approximately 3:04 p.m., Bay District Volunteer Fire Department Station 3, along with local EMS units, was dispatched to the 21000 block of Great Mills Road near Australia Drive in Lexington Park for a reported motor vehicle accident with possible entrapment.

Shortly after the initial call, St. Mary’s County Emergency Communications received additional reports confirming possible entrapment, prompting an upgraded response that included Rescue Engine 92 and an additional medic unit.

Units arrived to find a two-vehicle collision with no occupants trapped. EMS personnel conducted thorough assessments and determined that three individuals required medical attention. One patient, though suffering non-life-threatening injuries, was flown to a regional trauma center by Maryland State Police Aviation Command’s Trooper 7 as a precaution due to the nature of the crash. The helicopter landed safely at Lexington Park Elementary School, where Engine 32 established and secured the landing zone to ensure a safe airlift.

Two additional patients with non-life-threatening injuries were transported by ground to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital for further evaluation and care.

Fire and EMS crews remained on scene for a short time to provide barrier protection for emergency personnel and ensure the safety of all involved before returning to service.

This incident serves as a reminder to always stay alert while driving and to yield to emergency vehicles when they are responding to calls.

Fire Safety Tip: Make it a habit to check that your vehicle’s emergency kit is fully stocked. Flashlights, first-aid supplies, and reflective warning triangles can be essential during unexpected roadside emergencies.
