Investigation Sends Two to SMH

On 12/17/05 at 1834 hours Station 3 was alerted for and investigation of carbon monoxide inside a residence with two subjects inside feeling ill. Engine 33 and Rescue Squad 3 responded immediately with 7 Volunteers. All units arrived on the scene and advised to upgrade the assignment to a Hazmat Assignment. With the box being placed it brought Engine 132 and Hazmat 13 and the County Hazmat unit. Upon Further investigation by the Units on scene they found the homeowners to be heating the inside of their house with a charcoal grill. Two females that were in the residence were transported by ambulance Priority 2 to St. Mary's Hospital for possible CO poisoning. Engine 132 and Hazmat 13 and the County Hazmat unit were canceled authority of command. Command advised to the occupants that using a charcoal grill to heat the house is not advised and the grill was extinguished. The house was vented to prevent further illness in the residence. Units cleared the call at 1916 hours. Captain 9 (Jim Foster) had the incident command.
