February 27, 2024

On Monday, February 26, 2024, at approximately 9:15 p.m., the coordinated efforts of police, fire, and rescue personnel were put into action in response to a distressing incident at the intersection of Valley Drive and Fox Ridge Road in Lexington Park. Responders arrived swiftly to a motor vehicle collision where the occupant was discovered to be suffering from gunshot wounds.

Upon arrival, emergency crews encountered a harrowing scene. A single vehicle had veered off the roadway, crashing into a fence and a large shed. The vehicle's sole occupant was found trapped, unconscious, and afflicted by multiple gunshot wounds.

Despite the challenging circumstances, firefighters wasted no time in executing a rapid extrication. With precision and efficiency, they removed one door and the passenger seat, all while administering crucial aid to the victim. Miraculously, the victim was successfully extracted from the vehicle in under 10 minutes.

Recognizing the severity of the situation, a request for aerial transport was swiftly initiated. Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 7 promptly responded, landing nearby to facilitate the urgent transfer of the victim to a trauma center.

The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed at this time, was transported with life-threatening injuries. The prompt and coordinated response of emergency personnel undoubtedly played a pivotal role in ensuring the victim received expedited medical attention.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing, with law enforcement agencies working tirelessly to ascertain the facts and bring those responsible to justice.

The Bay District Volunteer Fire Department extends its gratitude to all emergency responders involved for their swift and decisive actions in the face of adversity.
