By Bay District Volunteers
March 20, 2023

On Monday, March 20, 2023, at approximately 1:19 a.m., firefighters from Bay District, NAS Patuxent River, Valley Lee, and Hollywood responded to 21708 Cabot Place in Lexington Park, for the reported house on fire with multiple victims trapped. Units arrived on scene to find a two story house with smoke showing, the residents that escaped stated there were two people still in the house in a second story bedroom.

Upon arrival Fire Chief 3 (J. Gould) assumed the command of the incident, due to the multiple rescues being performed a second alarm was requested for additional manpower.

Units quickly went to work to extinguish the fire in the basement while simultaneously performing searches. Crews performed VEIS (Vent, Enter, Isolate, Search) operations from ground ladders to the second story windows. Crews were able to locate the residents and began the rescues. Crews worked in the basement to control the fire while crews worked on the floors above them for rescue.

Despite valiant efforts from everyone on scene both residents succumbed from their injuries obtained from the incident. The officers and members of Bay District wish to extend our condolences to the family of the residents.
