By Bay District Volunteers
January 14, 2021

On Thursday, January 14, 2021, at 11:44 p.m., Bay District Stations 3 & 9, Ridge, NDW Patuxent River, Hollywood, and Seventh District fire departments responded to 19446 Virginia Way in Lexington Park, for a working house fire.

Fire Chief 3 (Gould) arrived to find a two-story wood framed single family house with fire showing from the first and second floor.
Fire Chief 3 established command and requested additional tankers bringing firefighters from Leonardtown and Solomons to the scene. Additional tankers were requested due to the area being a non-hydrant area, the closest water supply point was the St. Mary’s College of Maryland on Mattapany Road.

Crews attacked the fire and had to be evacuated numerous times due to fire and building conditions. Once personnel were able to attempt and interior attack, the roof collapsed along with the second-floor caving in on top of firefighters on the first floor.
The fire was controlled in approximately 45 minutes and crews remained on scene for several hours performing overhaul.
