Structure Fire in Lexington Park

By Firefighter Evan Flores
June 10, 2019

At 05:03 hours Bay District Stations 3 & 9 and area departments were alerted to a report of a working structure fire on Mary Lynn Drive in the Forest Park Subdivision in Lexington Park. Units from both stations immediately responded. Engine 32 was first arriving and reported a single-family home with heavy fire showing on side alpha coming from the attached garage. All of the residents of the home safely escaped after being alerted by their smoke alarms Engine 32 took attack group operations and stretched a line into the structure from side alpha. Engine 132 (NDW Pax River FD) arrived second to the structure and assisted Engine 32 with the attack group operations. Chief 3 (Robert Wahrenbrock) arrived soon after and assumed command of the incident.

Truck 13 was first due special and was assigned ventilation and search group operations. Engine 92 arrived as the third due engine company and picked up Engine 132’s supply line and the crew was assigned RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) operations on side alpha. After the initial interior attack it was found that the fire had spread across the roof and extended into the structure. Engine Command called for additional manpower, Engine 91, Engine 72 (Hollywood VFD) and Engine 14 (Leonardtown VFD) responded with additional staffing to assist. Crew members of Truck 13 started roof operations and were pulled off the roof due to safety factors. Engine 41 and Squad 4 (Ridge VFD) assisted with RIT staffing and fire attack. All crews on the scene worked tirelessly to extinguish the fire and salvage the owner’s property. The Red Cross responded and assisted the family.

All incidents that Bay District (and all fire departments) respond to affect the members of the department that respond to the emergency, but this incident was slightly different for our members. This house involved belonged to one of our members which made it a little more personal for us. The members of Bay District have started a GoFundMe account which will directly benefit the family to attempt to get some of the items needed that were destroyed by the fire (Link Below). Anything you could contribute to help the family is appreciated. You can also make donations to the family directly to Bay District VFD by sending a check/money order or by using our “PayPal Donation” link on the left side of the webpage. Please indicate in the notes the donation is for the Mary Lynn Drive fire.
