Well it's Monday night and without much exciting news to write about thought I would cover the drill that the Asst. Chief (Gould) had planned for the guys and gals.

It was a beautiful autumn evening and it would have been a nice night for a stroll with your lady but no we have drill to take care of first. So both stations loaded up on the pieces and headed down to the valley (2nd District) to the Joseph Sacco School of Firefighting for some hands on training on how to prepare for any type of water rescue and with cold weather coming you never know when you might hear the tones drop for someone fallen thru the ice on the many ponds that we have in our county. It's never to early to practice just what would need to be done if we were called to help someone in just that kind of situation.

When we arrived at the school it was over to the building that houses this real nice swimming pool. We carry a large amount of cold water rescue gear on our squad and everyone went over just where it was located so that when you rolled up on something you were ready to go. The drill was that we had two people fallen thru the ice and it was up to the firefighters to make the rescue without putting themselves in harms way. All were shown the different pieces on the squad by Driver Welch (Grape) and then he showed each of the firefighters present just how to use them. We had two victims in the pool upon arrival one being the instructor's wife Sherry Welch and some other fellow who's name I didn't catch. After working in the pool area all went outside where the Asst. Chief showed us how you could use a 100' length of 4" hose and using air bottles fill it with air so that it could be floated out to any victims allowing many to grab hold of the hose and work their way to shore. This was cool and firefighter Combs learned an important lesson to bleed the line before removing the cap on the end. Can you hear me now.

Well after a very informative drill it was time to get some chow and all you had to do was look around and there they were just waiting with subs, chips and drinks for all. Our Associates. We love them so. People say don't brag on them so much but I say when you have these guys and gals come out on our drill nights you better believe that I'm going to brag on them. They could be sitting home with their kids watching House or something but no they want to make sure that our needs are taken care of first. When I stop talking about them and our firefighters then my job would not be necessary and I would retire. Anyhow….Check out the pictures…
