On June 1, 2008 the Associates of the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department had their breakfast for the public and it was a huge success again. The ladies and gentlemen of the associates put on their breakfast's every 3 months in the social hall of Station 3 from 0800 to 1200 and everyone just can't wait for the next one. Many of the regulars that come each time wish we would have one every month but there is a tremendous amount of work that goes into each one and the ladies and gentlemen of the associates felt it was better to just do one every 3 months, that way everyone would be real hungry when the next one came along. It's so nice to see all of our faithful citizens that come all the time and support the fire department. They seem to really enjoy not only the food but the good conversation that they have with old friends. I can assure you that no one goes away from the hall hungry. We also love to see some of our brothers and sisters from the other department's in the county coming by to support us as we always try to support them.

Our gals and guys start working on the preparation for the breakfast two days in advance and with the driving force of the chairperson Melissa Gould and co-chairman Jeff McLane and the rest of their team they do a great job of making sure that everyone who comes to eat goes away fully satisfied and asking what's the date of the next one.

I don't want to close out this little story without giving some kudos to some of the old timers from the fire side of the department who always seem to show up and offer any help that they can. I do know that the associates appreciate it very much as they are always giving us a pat on the back. Those old timers are Keith Fairfax, Bob Braddock, Pete Kropp, Joe Zienda, Tod Jackson and you can usually count on Bruce Theden to be cooking in the kitchen along with Mel Tennyson on the flapjacks. Me I walk around sampling the food to make sure it's just right and click a few pictures along the way. Another big thanks to Ms. Conlon of the State's Attorney's office who always sends us some community service people to help out. It is a tremendous help busing tables, washing dishes and making sure that the buffet line moves along with no problems.

You know this thing is a lot of work for these guys and gals but they sure do seem to have fun at it and the laughter and smiles are contagious to all that come to help.

Don't forget to mark your calendars right now as you read this story that the next one is on September 7, 2008 from 0800 to 1200. All you can eat and let me tell you there is plenty of it. $8.00 per person for adults, you can't eat at McDonalds for that price and I can assure you that you won't get the smiles and thanks from anywhere else like you will get from us cause we do appreciate your business. See you then…
