| On Sunday morning, November 30, 2025, firefighters and emergency personnel responded to a vehicle fire reported near a local business in Lexington Park. Initial dispatch calls at approximately 10:20 a.m. directed emergency crews to the Quik Shop in the 21200 block of Great Mills Road for a vehicle fire possibly threatening a nearby structure. However, responding units quickly updated the location to the area of Three Notch Road and Hermanville Road, in front of Blimpie’s. Firefighters from Naval District Washington (NDW) Patuxent River arrived on the scene to find a single vehicle fully involved in flames. Fortunately, the fire had not extended to the nearby structure, and crews were able to bring the fire under control within 10 minutes. The vehicle's 64-year-old male driver and a passenger were able to safely exit the vehicle prior to the fire’s rapid spread. According to police, surveillance footage from nearby businesses showed the vehicle pulling into the parking lot with smoke already visible from the engine compartment. The fire quickly moved into the passenger area, but thanks to the quick actions of the passenger, the driver was assisted out just in time. Emergency medical personnel evaluated the driver for breathing difficulties, but both occupants declined further treatment, and no transports were made from the scene. The incident serves as a timely reminder of the importance of vehicle maintenance and awareness of early signs of mechanical trouble. Fire Safety Tip: If you notice smoke or unusual odors coming from your vehicle, pull over safely, turn off the engine, and exit the vehicle immediately. Always call 911 and stay a safe distance away until help arrives.
