By Bay District Volunteers
November 11, 2025

The Bay District Volunteer Fire Department is seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanic to join our team and support one of the busiest fire departments in St. Mary's County. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the operational readiness, safety, and reliability of our entire fleet.

Serving the communities of Lexington Park, California, and Great Mills, BDVFD operates from two stations—Station 3 (Lexington Park) and Station 9 (California). Our fleet includes 19 apparatus ranging from command units and brush trucks to engines, tankers, a heavy rescue, and aerial devices. On average, the department responds to approximately 2,500 emergency calls annually, making fleet performance an operational priority.

Position Overview

The selected candidate will serve as the department’s Primary Mechanic, responsible for maintaining, inspecting, and repairing all apparatus, support units, and associated equipment. The role involves daily coordination between both stations and direct engagement with department leadership, contractors, and service vendors.
