| At 12:07 p.m. on Friday, October 31, firefighters and EMS personnel from the Second District Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad (SDVFDRS), along with Rescue Engine 92 and surrounding EMS units, responded to a motor vehicle accident in the 20300 block of Point Lookout Road, in front of Dyson Lumber in Great Mills. Upon arrival, crews from Bay District Station 9 confirmed there was no entrapment. EMS personnel promptly evaluated the individuals involved and determined that one patient required transport by helicopter due to the nature of their injuries. Maryland State Police Aviation Command’s Trooper 7 responded and landed at a nearby church, where SDVFDRS Engine 61 established and managed a safe landing zone. One patient was transported by ground to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The second patient, also with non-life-threatening injuries, was flown to a regional trauma center for further evaluation and care. Units remained on scene to assist with traffic control, ensuring the safety of EMS personnel and other first responders before returning to service. The incident serves as an important reminder for motorists to slow down and remain alert when approaching emergency scenes. Fire Safety Tip: Always yield to emergency vehicles and never attempt to drive through an active emergency scene - give responders the space they need to work safely.
