Serious Auto Accident in Great Mills

At 8:32 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, Bay District Stations 3 (Lexington Park) & 9 (California) and surrounding EMS companies were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle collision in the vicinity of Great Mills Road and East Run Drive in Lexington Park.

Upon arrival at the scene, crews were met with a two-vehicle T-bone style collision, with one individual confirmed to be trapped within the wreckage. Despite adverse weather conditions grounding all helicopters, emergency responders wasted no time in addressing the critical situation.

The Bay District Volunteer Fire Department deployed its firefighters to conduct a rapid extrication, successfully freeing the trapped individual in under 15 minutes. The skill and efficiency of the responders were instrumental in ensuring the swift rescue of the trapped victim.

One individual, unfortunately, sustained severe injuries and required immediate medical attention beyond the capacity of the scene. Consequently, a helicopter transport was initially requested; however, due to unfavorable weather conditions, all helicopter operations were suspended.

Nevertheless, the injured party was promptly transported by ground ambulance to an area hospital with injuries believed to be life-threatening. Additionally, two more individuals involved in the collision were also transported to an area hospital to receive treatment for their injuries.

The collaboration and swift response of the emergency teams exemplify their dedication to serving and protecting the community in times of crisis. The incident is currently under investigation by local authorities to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the collision.
