Auto Accident with Entrapment

On Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at approximately 6:07 p.m., police, fire, and rescue personnel swiftly sprang into action in response to a serious motor vehicle collision in the vicinity of Piney Point Road and Springer Road in Valley Lee. The incident involved a Chevrolet pickup truck that had veered off the road, coming to rest on its side within a wooded area, with the sole occupant trapped inside.

First responders from the Second District and Bay District VFDs reacted with remarkable efficiency, successfully extricating the trapped individual in under 25 minutes. Their rapid and coordinated efforts greatly enhanced the chances of a positive outcome for the patient.

Following the extrication, the patient was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. Remarkably, throughout this process, the patient remained conscious, alert, and was able to breathe without assistance while walking to the waiting ambulance.

In addition to the emergency response teams, deputies from the St. Mary's County Sheriff’s Office were quick to arrive on the scene to initiate an investigation into the collision, ensuring a comprehensive examination of the incident.

The coordinated efforts of all involved parties on this fateful evening showcased the dedication and professionalism of our emergency services and utility providers, ultimately leading to a successful response and treatment in the face of a challenging situation.
