On Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at 12:28 p.m., police, fire and rescue personnel responded to the Tall Timbers Marina, for the reported boat on fire.

Crews arrived on the scene to find an approximate 60×100-foot pier/boat overhang fully engulfed in flames with over 10 vessels well involved with one subject unaccounted for. The missing subject was later located, he had minor injuries and refused transport to the hospital

Second District VFDRS Engine 61 arrived on scene and began extinguishment. Additional apparatus and fire boats arrived on scene and assisted. A second alarm was requested for additional manpower and was staged at SDVFDRS firehouse.

Incident command requested DNR (MD Department of Natural Resources), MDE (MD Department of the Environment), US Coast Guard and MD State Fire Marshal Office to assist.

Every fire department in St. Mary’s County and lower Calvert County assisted with this incident. Bay District units operated for over three hours before returning to service.
