Large Field Fire in Historic St. Mary's City

On June 28 at 12:50 pm Brush 3 was alerted for a field fire at 18640 Rosecroft Road in St. Mary’s City. Chief 4 (Cooper) was first arriving and reported approximately two acres of wheat field involved. Brush 4 (Ridge VFD) and E141 (NDWFD) arrived on scene and began the initial fire attack. Additional units were requested by command bringing Tanker 34, Brush 9 and Engine 93 to the scene. Units worked on scene for over 4 hours to control the blaze and performing overhaul to ensure the fire was completely out.

Approximately 30-35 acres of wheat fields were involved in this incident. Crews and apparatus were deployed to protect homes and buildings in the blazes path, no property was damaged or injuries occurred.

By the end of the incident, units from every fire department in St. Mary’s County were involved in firefighting efforts or to fill in for other departments on scene. Units from Calvert County and Forestry were also on scene.
