Boat Fire in California

At 8:41 pm the Volunteers of Bay District along with surrounding companies were alerted to 23703 Bill Dixon Road in California at the Town Creek Point Marina for a boat fire. The initial indications were a working fire.

Assistant Fire Chief Burroughs (Chief 3A) arrived on scene reporting one boat fully involved with exposures to two additional boats. Engine 72, Engine 91 and Truck 7 arrived on scene and found an approximately 35-foot boat fully involved in fire. Crews stretched a 1.75” handline and began extinguishment, Calvert Boat 3 arrived and assisted with water supply and extinguishment.

The incident was scaled back to holding units from stations 9, 7, 83 and an EMS unit. Units remained on scene working the hot spots and waiting for a boat recovery company to arrive. Additional units were requested to assist with the diesel fuel spill bringing HazMat 13 and HazMat 181 for absorbent booms.

Maryland Department of the Environment was notified, and they did not respond. The cause of the fire is being investigated by MSFMO and DNR.
