Fire Prevention Week Or In Our Case Fire Prevention Month

By Public Information Officer Douglas Medley
November 19, 2017

Well again this year the volunteers at Bay District can be proud of another successful fire prevention program. Our program is run by our two Deputy Chief's Ticson and Adams and they both stepped up to the plate and made sure that all the children and parent's were included in the program. I don't think the public out there have a clue just how much time our people dedicate to this worthwhile program. At the end of this story I will show you all just some of the statistics because I want you all to be as proud of our volunteers as I am.

Now let me go into a little more in depth and ask you to think about all the elementary schools that are located in the 8th election district. I can think of 8 not to mention the ones that are located in churches and the small daycares which I can't begin to figure out how many of those we have. But the deputy chief's didn't turn down anybody who had kids that they wanted the firemen to come by and see them.

Now I must say I know the firefighters enjoy the kids as much as the kids enjoy them. Most have kids of their own and really enjoy going to their kid’s school so their kids can see mom or dad in action. Generally our presentation consists of a short fire safety movie, firefighter dresses out, hand out goodies like coloring books, sipper cups, and we have to give each child a firefighter's helmet. That makes their day and they strut their stuff. Next we go outside for a tour of the fire trucks and we take the little ones and let them hold the forestry line (Small hose) and squirt some water hoping they won't squirt either us or their teacher. LOL

Sometimes we get interrupted for a run but we always come back and that adds some excitement to the show. You got to remember our firefighter's run almost 2,000 calls a year between the two stations so it's just amazing to me how they find time to do all that they do. I'm proud to say that I'm a member of Bay District. And as I write this story the guys are down putting up the community Christmas tree getting ready for our annual winter wonderland on the 25th of November so don't forget we light the tree to kick off the holiday season and have all kinds of fun things for the whole family so come on down.

Got a few pictures for all to enjoy. You might even spot your child in one of them.
