On April 23, 2017 the Volunteer Fire Departments and Rescue Squads in St. Mary's County will be hosting an open house in all the stations in hopes that you the public will stop by and talk to the volunteers that staff these stations. There are many things that they would like to talk about in the hope that you might be interested in joining up and share in the brotherhood.

There are many things that the different departments do in addition to just running calls and that is why we ask that you be willing to donate some of your time to help out. It is the most rewarding thing you can do for your community not to mention the new friends you will make at the different departments.

All is asked is that you stop by and give us the chance to talk to you and let you know what it is about fighting fires and going on emergency medical calls and realizing that it just might be one of your neighbors or maybe even a member of your family needing your assistance. Can there be anything else more rewarding than that

Now don't think for a minute that you are either to old or to young to make a difference. All we ask of the young people is that they be at least 16 years of age and have their parents permission to join. We take care of everything else. You will be trained by some of the most experienced firefighters in our department and I can assure all the anxious parents out there that we will take very good care of their sons or daughters.

So in closing let me just ask you to give us a chance and stop by the firehouse in either Lexington Park or California or if you think that you would prefer the medical side of volunteering you can stop by the rescue squad in either Lexington Park or California. Either way that you go remember the community will be rewarded by your decision.

Now enjoy a few pictures of just some of the operations of our department.

P.S. If you can't make it by on the 23rd, we always have drill nights on Monday night's at the station in Lexington Park. Starting at 6:00 p.m. on that night. Want to give us a call and talk to a firefighter our number is 301-863-8790 (California) and 301-737-0654 (Lexington Park).
