At around 930 pm Company 9, Squad 3 and Squad 6 were dispatched for a reported serious motor vehicle accident with possibly one overturned and trapped on Rt. 235 in front of Pier One Imports by First Colony Blvd.

Units marked up immediately after dispatch and Engine 91 arrived on scene shortly after. There they found a single vehicle in the roadway that was not overturned and had only the driver inside and he was not trapped also.

Squad 3 was asked to continue in due to the large amount of debris and fluids to clean up. Squad 6 was placed in service. The patient however was transported to the St. Mary's County Airport for medevac by Trooper 7 to PG Hospital due to the severity of the crash and his injuries.

The vehicle had hit a fire hydrant and threw it roughly sixty (yes 60) feet then took out a small tree and rolled the vehicle about three times before becoming upright in the roadway.

The local water company - Metcom - was asked to respond to repair the hydrant. Unlike the movies water was not shooting in the air once it was hit and knocked off.

Units remained on scene for roughly an hour before clearing and returning to service
