Tower-9, Week 8 Progress Report for 7/15/16

This week Tower-9's rolling chassis is at the Weyauwega Plant. The body although in pieces is at this point should be in the paint shop, the ladder compartment is complete and painted and the Torque Box for the aerial is resting on the chassis as the truck is inside with some pictures from our Pierce Dealer Randy Schwartz. The bucket has also been fully refurbished and looks great and mounting of the aerial should be in the near future weeks. The body should be in the process to be mounted and this should start moving quicker as we closer to mid-inspection in, what looks like mid-August. Please stay tuned...

Fixing the scene light as per our appropriate position. The lights are all FRC 750W Lights which will match all our other units using generator powered lights (except SQ-3 due to the importance of lighting) making parts stocking significantly more cost effective.

Yes that is a 65 Gallon Fuel Tank. As you can see the frame only extends just past the axles but the body will have a counter weight to combat the fatigue of the heavy aerial on the chassis. So weight distribution is important. We expect the weight to be around 60,000lbs.

The Torque Box is mounted and the top is where the aerial swivels and moves. The side gaps are where the middle outriggers or tormentors will be.

As you can see Pierce did a fantastic job upgrading and cleaning our bucket. They modified the doors so that the trip hazards of the 70's were removed and full doors were placed. A catwalk was also added and was original equipment for the 1970's so no special modifications were needed.

One interesting thing we found is that the piping as you can see it running around the perimeter of the bucket is actually part of the support system, so diamond plating was left out as removing the old flooring could have damaged the aerial/bucket.
