Recently members of the department got together to wish a farewell to Sgt. Arran Young. After serving four years with the department where he was always a top runner he has had to leave us to go back to Scotland and try and find a real job. Sure there are many out there in radio land who have heard Arran on the radio because you couldn't miss the accent. Arran lived at the firehouse and had come over to our country because his dad was working on a new aircraft for the British Air Force on board the Naval Warfare Center at Patuxent River, Maryland.. His dad had become a popular fixture around station 9 because that was about the only way he could see his boy. We so enjoyed his visits and do look forward to that to continue in the future. Love those giant donuts.

After Arran joined up it was not long before he learned the ropes and earned the rank of Sgt. He rode the seat almost all the time and many of us were impressed with his level head on the scene of an emergency. He saw it all in his 4 years with us and we were sad to see him go. He told us that he would return one day to visit and I guess having a beautiful girlfriend that he left behind just might make him return sooner that expected. Or maybe she will be heading across the pond. They make a beautiful couple.

So we had burgers and dogs and a nice cake for dessert. Arran was given his Sgt.'s helmet along with a plaque to remember us by. Somehow I don't think he will forget his stay with us and the good times we had. Just wished he could have stayed long enough to see the final renovation of his station 9. I told him to keep an eye on our website as I hope to show pictures of the project as it moves along.

So Arran God's Speed and know that you will always have a place to lay your head when you come back to town.
