National Night Out In America

August 5, 2015 and it was another hot and humid night in good old Southern Maryland. It was National Night Out all over the country and as usual we were going to do our part to make the night successful. Unit’s from both our stations 3 and 9 headed out going to the different neighborhoods in their first due to pass out fire prevention material and do a wet down of the kids. This is usually a nice event and well attended by everyone in the neighborhood that we go to.

It doesn’t hurt that at each stop there is usually plenty of food to eat so by the time you make all the rounds you have a stomach ache. It is a good time to mingle with the parents and doesn’t hurt to rub elbows with the policemen that are out in full force.

Now it looked for a while that we weren’t going to be able to go to any of the neighborhoods because of calls that were paged out. I was riding with the A-Chief so I got my quota of calls in for the month. So we are done again for another year and I’m sure we all look forward to Saturday when the Lions Club and St. Mary’s County Government put on Firemen and Rescue Squad personnel Appreciation Day at the Government center in Leonardtown, Maryland.

It’s a great time to sit down and break bread with all your friends in the emergency services. Besides it’s kind of hard to run acall from way over there.
