Water Supply Drill On The Patuxent River

It was pouring down rain on July 11, 2015 but a lot of planning had gone into preparation for a water supply drill using boats to supply folding tanks and tankers.

The drill was being conducted by our Water Supply Officer Keith Fairfax with the assistance of Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute Instructor Steve Wurtz. The drill was being held at the end of Green Holly Road in the Esperanza Section of our first due area.

It was supposed to start at 0730 but due to the heavy rain it was pushed back to 1000 hours. An excellent turnout by our members from both stations and I’m sure that some good information came out of the drill.

A big thanks to the crew from the Solomons Rescue Squad and Fire Department who braved the rough waters of the Patuxent River to bring Boat 3 over for the drill.

In talking to Mr. Fairfax about the drill he felt it was a resounding success and will go a long way in improving our ability to provide a water supply for a tanker shuttle on the fire ground. This will also help us out as far as our I.S.O. (don’t ask me what that stands for cause I forgot right now) rating goes for rural water supply on the fire ground. A big hi five to all our members who worked in some very tough conditions. Again, our training program is second to none and that goes right back to our Training Officer Richard Sullivan and his assistants.
