Training Night At The Big Yellow Monster

Monday night April 27th, 2015 and it was time for our regular scheduled drill. Captain R.J. Surratt was in charge of the planning for the drill and we had an excellent turn-out of some of the older members and plenty of new recruits. It was a nice evening and with the extra daylight we knew it would be a good time.

Captain R. J. had groups assigned and the drill was going to be about all the basic evolutions that we do on a regular basis every time we have a working fire. It is so nice to have the training tower right at the back of station 3 and we will very soon have the flash over simulator in service to add to our own training area. Can’t say enough about our Training Officer Richard Sullivan (Sully) for all his work in making this all happen. It is so nice that a few other departments have been able to use the facility and I’m sure that there will be others in the future.

I’m pretty sure that all the firefighters had a good time and for the new recruits it was a real learning experience. It was a long one and we didn’t get done till 2100 hours, but we had some unexpected guests who brought plenty of food for all the firefighters. A nice touch for the end of a long evening.

A big thanks goes out to the Real Life Wesleyan Church located in Mechanicsville, Maryland. I understand that they also did the same for the members at Mechanicsville VFD and I think their plan is to go to each of the stations in the county on their drill nights and do the same. A very nice thing to do and we did certainly appreciate it. So spring is here and summer can’t be far behind and our drill schedule will be full with plenty of new tactics to learn.

Special Thanks To Photo 3/9 Jamie Olson for the pictures.
