In Honor Of Those Who Served The Bay District Volunteer Fire Department

Well it’s done and looks beautiful if I do say so myself. After many months of road trips and meeting with Walt Tegeler of W. S. Tegeler Monument Company of Woodlawn, Maryland the finished monuments are in place on a location we picked next to our social hall. The committee under the chairman Doug Medley made road trips to almost all the different departments in Southern Maryland that have monuments dedicated to their past members to see just what they have but in the end we wanted to make this just a Bay District thing and we felt that is what we did.

It all started when the President Wayne Johnson, Sr. told me that we have talked about it long enough and he wanted to make it happen. I accepted the challenge of being the chairman but let me just say this was a committee project and on the committee I had Steve Stockwell, Daniel Martin, Daniel Burroughs, Wayne Johnson, Jr., Jermaine Sewell, Rick Montrose and Lauren Johnson.

Now let me tell you about a person on the committee that made all of this happen and that person is Robert Braddock. Bob was more than my right hand man, he was my everything man. He did all the meetings with Walt, made all the phone calls and was there during the final installation of the memorial. I can’t say enough about Bob making me look so good so I will just let the finished monument speak for itself.

I’m sure that we will have a dedication ceremony sometime in the spring to be determined by our President Wayne Johnson. So ride by and take a look and let us know what you think of it. I can’t be more proud of the committee and our board of directors for allotting the funds to construct it. Fond memories of the names on it and I know they are proud of us for not forgetting them and everything that they did for our department.
