By Fire Sergeant Ryan White
December 19, 2012
On Tuesday at 4:21 pm, Stations 9, 3, 38, 39 and ALS were alerted to the intersection of Three Notch Road and Rue Purchase Road for a motor vehicle accident. Engine 92 and Squad 3 both responded within a minute of dispatch. As units were enroute, police on the scene advised units that the accident was in the area of Three Notch Road and Quality Way. Engine 92 arrived on location with 2 vehicles, T-bone style collision with one vehicle on its side and the other vehicle into a utility pole involving marked Maryland state Police unit. Engine 92 arrived at 4:24 and established command. Crews immediately began stabilizing both vehicles. Squad 3 arrived on scene moments after Engine 92 and assisted with stabilization, due to the damage received from the vehicle colliding into a utility pole the driver's door would have to be removed to free the injured officer from the police vehicle. The crew from Squad 3 began to remove the driver's door, after the door was removed; the patient was turned over to awaiting EMS crews. After completing patient assessment, EMS crews advised that the patient would require medevac to a local trauma center. MSP Trooper 7 was requested Category B Priority 2 to fly the injured Trooper. The Patient of the additional vehicle did not require medical treatment. Engine 33 responded and handled the landing zone which was adjacent to the scene at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. After the patient was removed and packaged for transport crews began cleaning up and returning to service at 5:06.
The members of Bay District wish the Trooper involved in this accident a speedy recovery.
