For the past several years the members of Bay District have done something that I think is a good thing and that is be a sponsor to one of the Little League teams in our area. This year I decided to stop down at the opening ceremonies' along with our Deputy Chief 9 Mark Warren and just see what we were getting for our money. I was not disappointed one bit when we turned into the regional park at Chancellors Run and the fields were just packed with kids and their parents. There was not a parking place to be found but we did manage to find a spot on the grass so we had to hoof it for about ½ mile to get to the main area.
I checked out just which was our team this year and found out they were called the Mustangs. Mark and I went down to the field and spotted our team decked out in their uniforms with Bay District Volunteer Fire Department on the back of their jersey's. Looked good and I had some kind words spoken to me from Ron Lord the guy who is one of the announcers at Blue Crab stadium that is was a good thing we were doing for the kids and maybe some of the rest of the departments in the county could do the same. There were some teams that didn't have a sponsor so I suppose these are the ones he was talking about.
So we met the coach and told the team we would be rooting for them and invited them to stop by the firehouse anytime for a tour. The deputy chief also told them he would bring our Tower out to a practice or game and take a picture with them on top. They loved that idea and we will make it happen. So it was a good time and when the ump stepped up to the plate and shouted "Play Ball" it took you back to a happy time in your life or at least it did me. Yes at one time I was little enough to play ball and run the bases.
