It almost felt like spring in the air when on Sunday, January 15, 2012, that Bay District had their second Bridal Expo for 2012. This affair is pretty much put on with a lot of work by our social hall director Bob Braddock along with help from our associate members and some of the vendors at the show.
But this is really Bob's baby and he is getting very good at it. It's hard to believe just how much work goes into something like this but me being a bystander I just walked around taking pictures and was amazed just how smoothly things ran all day long.
It was kind of funny but when the clock stuck 11:30 a.m. and all the future brides were waiting in the vestibule when Bob unlocked the door it reminded me of those sales up the road when wedding gowns are being sold at a great price cause here they came and you had better get out of their way.
There were 32 vendors set-up in the hall and that was about all it would hold with them and their wares. You had everything the future bride would need accept a banker. There were photographers, travel agents, music people, places that sold wedding dresses, a lady that had beautiful gems and tiara's and flowers so beautiful that were set up in the hall.
What were so cool were the limousines out front of the hall that were available to rent. They even had a 1958 Rolls Royce like Queen Elizabeth's that if you could afford it you could have it for the day. They had our special friends from the Printing Press in Leonardtown with a beautiful display of wedding invitations and programs along with just about anything else that you would want printed up.
Now I would be remiss if I didn't tell you about the different catering services that were there with samples of just a little tease of the great food that they have available for wedding reception's or any other affair you might be having. You could just walk around the hall and take different samples and before you knew it you were full. I must give a shout out to one of our favorites Ms. Rita "B's" who always takes care of us at our annual installation and anything else that we have come up. Besides she told me that if I gave a plug she would give me a stuffed ham sandwich next time she sees me. LOL
Now that I have talked about the vendors let me tell you something about the wedding outfits that they had young ladies wearing and walking around the hall during the show. Just one word. WOW…….These ladies looked beautiful in their dresses and there were plenty of oh's and ah's in the crowd. The guys looked good to and I must give them their kudos to but the ladies now they were something. I got pictures so you decide which dress was the nicest and if you see something that you like I have the program in my office at the firehouse of who all the vendors were there and if you are thinking about getting married in the near future let us know and Bob will fill you in. Also if you think you might like to rent our social hall for your special day don't wait as it's filling up fast for the spring and summer. Check it out on our website for further information.
Now all during the show there were door prizes being given away to all the brides that had registered at the front door and they were nice one's that were donated by the vendors in the hall. The grand prize for the day was donated by the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department and that was a beautiful wedding gown from Today's Bride valued at $1,000.00. The drawing for this was at 3:00 p.m. and the winner was Shandi Vallandingham of Prince Frederick, Maryland. To say that she was thrilled would be an understatement as she had been by the Today's Bride display to purchase her dress. Is that cool or what. So Bob was so happy that he has already decided to have another one in January of 2013. So all you prospective brides out there keep an eye out and we will see you there.
