Bay District Re-Cycles Another One........ Good-By Old Girl
By Public Information Officer Douglas Medley
January 16, 2010
Another sad day for some of the old timers at Bay District when we said good-by to one of the work horses of the department. With the arrival of our new brush truck for station 9 the fire chief decided that we no longer needed the services of our old brush truck that ran out of there so being up with current times it was decided to use www.e.bay.com to see about selling it. Some of older guys (me included) didn't think much of this new fangled way of selling something but don't you know it had not been on there but about a week and we had a buyer. If you want me to tell you what we got for it ain't going to do that. We got what they were asking for on that e-bay thing and the fire chief was smiling when it drove out the door for the last time.
The guy that purchased it was a Mr. Youngblood from up in Montgomery County. Seems he has about 8 acres where he lives in Potomac (High Class Area) and he collects old trucks and restores them. He currently has a 1965 Ford F-150 completely restored but the cool one is a 1964 Mercedes' military truck that he had shipped in from overseas and he uses that for pulling stumps on his place. He said all the neighbors call it "The Beast" when they see it on the road.
Guess you are asking yourselves why a story about an old brush truck, well let me tell you this truck has plenty of stories to tell and has fought a lot of fires over the years so she deserves a story before heading off into retirement. This guy will take good care of her and give her a good home. She deserves the rest and besides that have you heard anything else on the scanner to write about. Smells, Bells, Fender Benders, Medical Assists that's all you hear on the squawk box so at least this is something for you to read when you are holed up in the house due to cold weather.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!

Old girl looks pretty good for running calls for 27 years. Nothing fancy just got the job done.
This fellow was pretty smart. Drove down on his BMW motorcycle then rented a trailer to haul the bike back. Funny story while he was renting the trailer we had a call in the shopping center across from where he was renting the trailer and the guy at the trailer store asked him why wasn't he going to the call. I know that old gmc wanted to run just one more time.
Enjoy working on the farm girl. You earned it. I bet the guy who bought it lit up those lights on her and went around that beltway don't you think. Someone will see him doing that and we will be in St. Mary's Today in the next issue.
