Vehicle Well Off Extends To First Due Garage

By Deputy Chief Jeff Evans
July 1, 2008

On July 1, 2008 at 2147 hours the Volunteers from Bay District, Hollywood and 7th District fire departments were alerted to 22233 Cosmos Drive for a vehicle fire that had extended to a house. Engine 92(FF. Post), Engine 32(FF. Bruner), Truck Company 3(FF. Nelson) along with Chief 3 and Chief 3A responded within a minute of dispatch with 15 volunteers. Engine 92 arrived and laid in a supply line from the intersection of Heather St. and Cosmos Ct and advised of a vehicle fire extending into a 2 story ordinary construction single family home with fire showing from the garage. Chief 3A arrived next and established the "Cosmos Court Command" advising the next arriving (Engine 32) to pick up Engine 92's line and the 1st Special Service (Truck 3) to take position on Side "A". Chief 3(Johnson) then arrived and Command was transferred over to him giving Chief 3A operations. The Crews worked together to make quick work of the fire bringing the fire under control within 15 minutes. Engine 74(Chief 7A) and Truck Company 7(Chief 7) arrived and assisted in further investigating for extension, throwing ladders, and assisting with a Primary and Secondary Search. After wetting down some hot-spots in the attic of the garage, venting the house and garage and some overhaul all units were then placed in service and command was terminated. Chief 3 held the "Cosmos Court Command", Chief 3A held the operations and Lt. 9(M. Warren) held the Interior Operations. All units Returned to quarters at 2334 hours.

While units operated on the Fire ground Engine 73(Capt. Riley) filled in at Station 9 and Both Station 3 and Station 7 held additional crews in station just in case something else should come out.

Units: Engine 92, Engine 32, Truck Company 3, Jeep 9, Brush 9, Chief 3, Chief 3A
Mutual Aid: Engine 74, Truck Company 7, Water Supply 5, Fire Marshall, SMECO
