New Traffic Light at Great Mills Road and FDR Blvd Intersection
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Deputy Fire Chief Steve Stockwell
July 17, 2015

If you haven't noticed a new traffic light has gone up at the intersection of Great Mills Rd. and FDR Blvd. This light was put in by the Maryland SHA (State Highway Administration) through the efforts of members from both Bay District VFD, Co. 3 and Lexington Park VRS, Co. 39. With our call tallies somewhere in the range of over 5000 calls (together) this will benefit in a faster service provided by those stations. In the past some of the responding apparatus have been held up by traffic or driver's unaware that our Station's were nearby or that we were on an emergency call pulling out into Great Mills Rd. How these lights operate is that when one of the two companies (Co. 3 or Co. 39) receive a call the responding units/vehicles have a receiver that will "trip" or activate the light will allow those Fire or EMS Units to proceed thru the lights to that emergency. So stay alert for the new signal when out and about.

A big thank you goes to the MD State Highway, Former State Delegate John Bohanan for working with us to get this project done.
