By Deputy Fire Chief Steve Stockwell
May 13, 2015

On 5/13/2015 at 1644 hours, just after returning from a MVA with Extrication in Ridge. Co. 3 and Co. 9 were dispatched for a report of a house fire at 12525 Point Lookout Road. E-33 (Sgt. Vanness), T-3 (FF Briscoe), C-3 (J. Gould) and E-93 (Sgt. Young) responded within a minute of dispatch. Further reports indicated that 3 people were trapped and unaccounted for, however this was eventually lowered to 1 person. After a long ride units from Bay District arrived on scene, E-33 assisted with tanker/shuttle and water supply setup, T-3 initially staged but eventually made its way via cornfield to Side "A", and E-93 also assisted with tanker shuttling. Crews from Ridge, NAS Patuxent River (Webster Field) arrived on scene to find fire on the first floor extending into the large 1800's Style Farm House. A victim was located outside the structure with burns and appropriately treated by medical personnel before being flown out via Trooper 6 due to the nature of those injuries. Crews quickly extinguished the fire and ventilated the structure, primary and secondary searches for victims were negative. All members of the family were eventually accounted for including the family pet (saved from the fire) and returning to a grateful family. After completion of overhaul the fire did re-light in which crews from Bay District, Ridge extinguished performing additional overhaul on the old style farm house to ensure it stayed extinguished. The scene was then turned over to St. Mary's Sherriff's Office and MD State Fire Marshalls Office for investigation. Command was held by Chief-4 (B. Raley) and Operations by Chief-4B (R. Mecure). Command was eventually terminated and units returned to quarters upon clean up. We would also like to extend our many thanks to the Ridge Ladies Auxiliary for bringing much needed refreshments and food for a long day in the 90 degree weather.
