Lunch At Pegg Road Senior's Complex

November 15, 2014

Recently the volunteers from station 3 and station 9 were invited to a luncheon at the Pegg Road Senior Citizens complex for an Italian meal with all the residents to thank us for all we do for them during the year. The joke during the meal was most of them at one time or another had been stuck in the elevator and we had responded to assist them in getting out.

Now you know that there are some of us who are not going to miss a free meal so we were looking forward to our visit. When we arrived we were not to be disappointed as we were where escorted into the main dining room where the ladies and gentlemen had put out quite the spread.

There was everything laid out on the table in buffet style and after a lunch prayer we were asked to help ourselves and they only had to tell us one time. I can’t remember just what was on the table but you name it and if it was Italian it was there. I tried some stuff that I had no clue what it was but it was delicious. Then after the meal there were plenty of desserts. Now because many of our members were tied up cleaning the apparatus for the funeral of our Life Member Mark Buhl, Sr. the ladies and gentlemen prepared dishes for us to bring back for those that couldn’t take the time away from the station to join them for lunch.

After this fine meal we were presented with a very nice wall mural to hang in the station and a card signed by all in the home. They told us that they would like to have us over during the holidays and we told them that would be so nice and we would be sure to be there. It was a pleasure to have these senior citizens come up to us and personally thank us for all we do. There was an older gentleman who back in the 40’s was a firefighter in Prince George’s County who was just thrilled to sit down and tell us a few stories about fighting fires back in the day. I think that they enjoyed us coming for lunch as much as we did.
